최근 어린이 관련 범죄가 사회적 이슈가 되고 있다. 어린이 범죄를 예방하고 효과적으로 대응하기 위해서는 실제 발생된 범죄뿐만 아니라 잠재적 범죄, 즉 범죄 두려움에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 이연구는초등학교통학로에서어린이들이 느끼는 범죄 두려움을 가로환경특성과의 관계속에서분석하기 위해 시작되었으며, 통학로에서 어린이들이 실제로 느끼는 범죄 두려움의 정도를 파악하고, 어린이의범죄두려움에영향을미치는가로환경특성을분석하는것을목적으로한다. 이를위해서울영화초등학교 6학년생25명을대상으로 설문및 면접조사를하여 범죄두려움 유발구간과 유발구간의 가로환경 특성을 분석하였다. 그 결과 6개의 범죄 두려움 유발구간을 도출하였고 가로 폭, 용도, 도주경로, 관리상태가두려움에 영향을 주는 주요인으로 분석되었다. 폭8m 이상의 가로와 근린생활시설이 혼재된구간에서 어린이들은 안전함을 느꼈고, 도주경로가 없거나 막다른 길과 연결된 구간, 노면상태가 불량하거나 쓰레기가 방치된 곳, 시설이 노후한 곳에서의 범죄 두려움이 큰 것으로 분석되었다.
Abstract
Crime against children has been a social issue these days. To effectively prevent and deal with them, the study of potential crime or fear of crime is needed as well as that of real crime.This study examines the causal relationship between children’s fear of crime in school zones and characteristics of street environments. It aims to determine the degree of fear of crime that children feel in school zones, and analyze characteristics of street environments that influence fear of crime in children. A survey and interviews were conducted on 25 students in the sixth grade of Seoul Youngwha Elementary School, to identify and analyze characteristics of street environments that cause fear of crime in children. The findings indicate that 6 sections that trigger fear of crime were revealed and that street width, its usage, escape route, and its management state are the main elements that influence children's fear of crime. The children felt safe in sections more than 8 meters in width, and where there are surrounding neighborhood facilities. They felt fearful in streets without an escape route, that lead to a dead end, with road surfaces of poor quality, with neglected waste, or with run-down facilities.
