Abstract
This study aims to find out the effects of learner’s variables and gaming variables on flow and social problem solving. This result shows that players get immersed when they think the simulation is related to their area of concern. Also there is high correlation between their recognition of the simulation as a meaningful activity and flow. The gaming variables affecting flow are 'game scenario’ and ‘design’. These variables are the main variables inducing player’s immersion. Flow is affecting social problem solving of players. This is because players are repeatedly solving problems presented in simulation, thus they get social problem solving increased. Learner’s variables such as ‘joyfulness’, ‘usage attitude’, ‘exploring’, ‘significance level’ and ‘level of stimulus’ are affecting social problem solving of players. Gaming variables such as ‘game scenario’ and ‘interaction’ also are affecting social problem solving of players. On the other hand, ‘design’ of gaming variables are not affecting flow of players. This is because ‘design’ of simulation can be a factor for flow, but is not related to social problem solving of players. For conclusion, simulation can help players get motivated to learn and absorb information in it. The ‘flow’ of players in simulation happens when the task and the level become high. This leads to increasing social problem solving of players by iterating solving the given problems in simulation. Based on this, it is expected that the experience of solving problems in simulation be transferred to real life, resulting in prompt responses and active reactions to the faced problems in real life.
