스마트폰 사용 목적에 따른 잠재집단과 학업태도와의 관계: 성별을 중심으로

초록

스마트폰이 현대인의 필수품이 됨에 따라, 최근에는 대부분의 청소년들 또한 스마트폰을 보유하게 되었고 그 활용에 대한 관심과 연구도 크게 증가하고 있다. 하지만 기존의 관련연구들은 스마트폰의 개별 기능에 초점을 맞추는 변수중심접근(Variable-centered approach)방법을 기반으로 다른 주변의 변수들과 어떠한 연관성이 있는지에 연구의 초점을 두었고, 이러한 접근은 학생 개인의 스마트폰 사용 패턴을 고려하기 어렵다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 사람중심접근(Person-centered approach)를 사용해 스마트폰 사용 목적에 따른 잠재집단을 확인하고, 확인된 잠재집단에 따라 학업태도에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보았다. 나아가 성별에 따라 사용 패턴이 다른 점을 고려해 남학생 여학생을 구분하여 두 집단의 차이를 확인하였다. 본 연구를 위해 한국아동․청소년패널조사 2018(KCYPS 2018) 1차년도(2018년)로부터 중학교 1학년 남학생 1375명과 여학생 1166명의 데이터를 분석하였다. 스마트폰의 기능들을 사용 목적에 따라 가족 관계적 사용, 친구 관계적 사용, SNS 사용, 오락적 사용, 도구적 사용, 정보추구 사용으로 구분하였다. 그룹별 평균 비교에서는 여학생이 오락적 사용을 제외하고 모든 목적에 있어 남학생보다 스마트폰 사용이 더 많았다. 또한 잠재프로파일분석결과 남학생들 사이에서는 전반적 저사용 집단, SNS 저사용 집단, SNS 집중사용 집단이 확인되었고, 여학생들 사이에서는 SNS 저사용 집단, 전반적 평균사용 집단, SNS 집중 사용 집단이 확인되었다. 잠재집단과 학업태도와의 관계는 SNS 저사용 집단이 남학생 여학생 모두에게서 가장 높은 수준의 학업태도를 보여주었고, 남학생들 사이에서는 전반적 저사용 집단이, 여학생들 사이에서는 SNS 집중사용 집단이 가장 낮은 수준의 학업태도를 보여주었다. 그 밖에 본 연구의 제한점 및 추후 연구 등이 논의되었다.

Abstract

As a smartphone has become common among people in these days, adolescent students also have possessed their smartphone and an interest in and research on use of them has highly increased. However, a majority of previously relevant studies has employed a variable-centered approach focused on individual functions of a smpartphone to examine how they are related to other variables, which missed a pattern of individual‘s smartphone use. Therefore, the purpose of the present study is to identify latent classes based on the purpose of smartphone use and examine how they are related to learning attitude using latent profile analysis(LPA). In addition, according to previous research in which there are gender differences in the pattern of smartphone use, how differently the latent classes emerged by gender was investigated. For the study, this study analyzed the data of 1375 male and 1166 female first-grade middle school students obtained from the Korean Children & Youth Panel Survey 2018(KCYPS 2018). In the study, the purpose of smartphone use was categorized into family relationship, friend relationship, SNS, entertainment, tool, and information-seeking. Descriptive analysis showed that for the most purposes except for entertainment, female students used smartphones more frequently than males. Also, the result of a latent profile analysis identified overall infrequent use, SNS infrequent use, and SNS oriented use groups among male students and SNS infrequent use, overall moderate use, and SNS oriented use among females. Lastly, the SNS infrequent use group demonstrated the greatest learning attitude among males as well as females, and male students in the overall infrequent use and female students in the SNS oriented use group lower learning attitude than other groups. Limitations of the study and the direction of future studies were discussed.
