고등교육에서 ChatGPT의 교육적 활용에 대한 대학 교수의 경험 연구: 근거이론을 중심으로

본 연구는 고등교육에서 ChatGPT의 교육적 활용에 대한 대학 교수의 인식과 경험을 파악하고 이와관련된 환경과 맥락을 심층적으로 밝히고자 하였다. 이를 위해 근거이론(grounded theory)을 적용하여교육 실행의 중심에 있는 대학의 교원을 면담하여 대학 교수의 수업 내 AI 활용 경험과 행동, 인식등을 질적 자료로 수집하고 분석하였다. 대학 강의 경력과 ChatGPT 활용 경험을 고려하여 선정한 A 대학 교원 8명을 면담하고 수집된 자료를 개방코딩, 축코딩, 선택코딩 방법으로 분석하였다. 연구결과, 총 65개의 개념과, 26개의 하위범주, 12개 상위범주를 아우르는 6개의 패러다임을 도출하였으며, 범주간 관계를 고려하여 인과조건과 맥락조건, 중심현상, 중재조건, 작용/상호작용 전략과 결과를 포함하는패러다임 모형을 제시하였다. 선택코딩 결과 핵심 범주는 ‘기술 수용과 교육적 적용을 위한 교수자의지속적 변화 노력’으로 나타났다. 결론적으로 대학 교수의 ChatGPT에 교육적 활용 경험과 인식은 긍정적, 부정적 효과에 대한 인식이 혼재하며, 교육적 활용을 위한 여러 측면의 고려가 필요함을 확인하였고, 향후 교육적 방향성의 변화가 필요함을 확인하였다. 더불어 기술 수용을 위한 교수와 대학의 공동 노력과 지원, 윤리적 고려 등이 필요함을 확인할 수 있었다. 이를 통해 미래 대학교육을 위한 준비와 대응을 위한 시사점을 논의하였다.
Abstract
This study aimed to identify the perceptions and experiences of university professors on the pedagogical use of ChatGPT in higher education and to reveal the related environment and context. Applying grounded theory, we collected and analyzed qualitative data on professors' experiences, behaviors, and perceptions of using AI in the classroom by interviewing professors who are at the center of educational practice. We interviewed 8 professors who were selected based on their experience in teaching and using ChatGPT and analyzed the collected data using open coding, axial coding, and selective coding methods. As a result, 6 paradigms with a total of 65 concepts, 26 subcategories, and 12 categories were derived, as well as a paradigm model. The core category that emerged from the selective coding was 'ongoing change efforts by professors to embrace technology and its pedagogical applications'. In conclusion, we found that university professors' experiences and perceptions of the educational use of ChatGPT are mixed in terms of positive and negative effects, and that it is necessary to consider various aspects for educational use and that changes in educational direction are needed in the future. In addition, we found that there is a need for collaborative efforts and support from professors and universities to embrace technology, as well as ethical considerations. We discussed the implications for preparing for and responding to the future of higher education.
