Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the differences in academic achievement based on weekly course-taking time profiles of cyber university students using latent profile analysis in the perspective of learning analytics. To this end, a total of 97 new production courses that conducted quizzes, assignments, and final exam at A cyber university were sampled. Log data with personal information deleted were extracted from 4,411 students in the course. Latent profile analysis was conducted with weekly course-taking time as an indicator variable, and the final profile was selected. To verify the difference in academic achievement, the BCH(Bolck-Croon-Hagenaars) analysis method recommended for continuous variables was used. The research results are as follows. First, cyber university students’ weekly course-taking profiles were found in four groups. Based on the characteristics of course-taking time patterns, they were named as ‘initial concentrated type’, ‘balanced type’, ‘stay type’, and ‘test concentration type’. Second, as a result of verifying the difference in academic achievement between the profiles, there were significant differences in quizzes, assignments, final exam. The final grades were the highest in ‘balanced’, followed by ‘initial concentrated’, ‘test concentrated’, and ‘stay’ types in order. This study is significant in that it suggests considerations for developing future learning support measures based on weekly course-taking time profiles of cyber university students.
