Abstract
This study is to explore the effect of visual digital poster production team activities on learners’ creativity and thinking ability in digital storytelling-based classes using image-generating artificial intelligence. The subjects of this study were 87 students from C University in Seoul who participated in the second semester of 2023. It was conducted for 4 weeks, and quantitative and qualitative research methods were included. Creativity was conducted both quantitative and qualitative research at the same time. For creativity, the pre-post comparison change measurement was based on Runco’s RIBS items, and the qualitative study used open-ended items. Thinking ability was conducted only with qualitative research to understand perceived experience, cognitive change, and thinking strategy. The study results showed a significant increase in pre-post significantly (t = -8.932, p <.001) due to quantitative change in creativity, and among the sub-factors, fluency and originality were significantly improved. It is interpreted that the experience of generating quick and rich ideas and the experience of generating unique ideas had an influence. The qualitative analysis identified aspects such as the expansion of creative ideas, creative confidence, and various thinking directions, such as the expansion of creative thinking through acceptance of unpredictable visual results, flexibility in thinking through the process of producing high-quality creations, and promotion of metacognitive thinking.
