Abstract

In the recent unification perceptions survey for adults, differences by age group were found. And in the student unification perceptions survey, there is a clear difference according to school level in the student response to the necessity of unification. In this study, I identified differences in perceptions of unification education according to the age group and school level of teachers and explored the implications for improving school unification education. The survey was conducted on 2,431 teachers in Seoul, including the opinion on school unification education, the difficulties in unification education, the source of teaching materials, and the contents to be emphasized when revising the curriculum. The research results are as follows. Twenties and thirties in age had more negative opinions on unification education than other age groups and responded passively to various detailed questions. High school teachers were more negative than the elementary and the middle school teachers on the effectiveness of the unification education and the appropriateness of the curriculum. Teachers are very important in that they are the parties directly implementing unification education. Various aspects of unification education awareness should be carefully examined and reflected in educational policies such as curriculum revision, textbook development, teaching and learning materials development, and teacher training. In particular, teachers in their twenties, thirties, and high school should find out more specifically why they are passively responding to unification education, and establish measures that take this into account.
