초록

The continuing global economic recession and diversifying life values (e.g., work-family balance) in an aging society challenge the underlying premises of current career education and create the need for a different approach to career education in South Korea. The purpose of this study is to identify and evaluate the assumptions of the current national career education goals and performance criterion in South Korea and propose a more integrative career education that helps Korean children and adolescents better prepare to build their work and lives in a changing society. First, this study discusses career literature that addressed the limitations of career theories and suggested new directions for future education. Then, based on the literature review, the current National School Career Education Goals and Performance Criterion is reviewed and critiqued. Finally, suggestions and recommendations for a more comprehensive career education are discussed and proposed.
