발달장애 고등학생의 성인기 준비에 관한 학부모의 인식

본 연구는 발달장애 고등학생 자녀를 둔 학부모들의 성인기에 대한 인식과 성인기 준비 과정에서의 경험 그리고학부모가 필요로 하는 지원을 고찰하고자 수행되었다. 경기도, 울산광역시, 전라남도에 거주하는 발달장애 고등학생자녀를 둔 10가정의 학부모 12명을 대상으로 개별 면담을 실시하고, Braun과 Clarke(2006)의 주제분석 방법을 활용하여면담 전사 자료를 분석하였다. 질적 분석 결과, 발달장애 자녀의 성인기에 대한 조망, 성인기를 위한 가족의 준비, 성인기 준비의 어려움, 성인기 준비를 위한 지원 요구의 4가지 대주제와 이에 따른 12개의 하위 주제가 도출되었다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 장애인을 포용할 수 있는 사회적 환경과 인식개선의 필요성, 발달장애 고등학생 가족을 위한가족 지원과 가족 역량 강화의 필요성, 발달장애 고등학생을 위한 실질적인 교육 및 진로·직업 지원 확대의 필요성, 장애 정도에 따른 맞춤형 생활 교육과 돌봄 체계 마련 등에 대해 논의하였다. 본 연구는 발달장애 고등학생 학부모의경험을 기반으로 성인기 준비 과정에서의 현실적 어려움을 구체적으로 조명하였으며 학부모들이 필요로 하는 지원요구를 다각적으로 탐색했다는 의의가 있다.
Abstract
This study aims to explore the perceptions of parents of high school students with developmental disabilities regarding their children’s transition to adulthood, their experiences in preparing their children for adulthood, and the types of support they require during this process. Interviews were conducted with 12 parents from 10 families in Gyeonggi-do, Ulsan, and Jeollanam-do, South Korea. The data were analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s (2006) thematic analysis. Four major themes and 12 sub-themes emerged from the analysis: parental perspectives on adulthood for children with developmental disabilities, family efforts in preparing for adulthood, challenges encountered during the preparation process, and support needs during the transition. This study highlights the importance of fostering an inclusive social environment, enhancing public awareness, providing comprehensive and realistic family support, offering capacity-building programs, expanding practical education, and establishing tailored care systems based on the severity of the disability. The findings provide an in-depth understanding of the complex challenges parents face during their children's transition to adulthood. Moreover, the study highlights their varied support needs.
