Abstract
This study aimed to explore public kindergarten teachers’ perceptions of the implementation of the 2019 Revised Nuri Curriculum using the photovoice method. Participants were ten public kindergarten teachers from metropolitan area. The results were as follows: Teachers perceived the ideal implementation of the Revised Nuri Curriculum as play-based education characterized by freedom and enjoyment, respect for individuality and diversity, a curriculum co-constructed by the educational community and harmonious and balanced education. In contrast, the actual implementation was perceived as contradictory and confusing, play that had lost its essence, play documentation prepared mainly for administrators and parents, and an overwhelming curriculum for teachers. The gap between ideals and reality was perceived as an unreachable and unbridgeable distance caused by differing perspectives within the educational community. Difficulties idendified by teachers included excessive workload and responsibilities, conflicting demands from parents and administrators, diminished teacher autonomy and professionalism, and large class sizes. For future implementation, teachers emphasized the need for reduced workload supported by administrative and financial assistance, clear guidelines, and improved awareness and cooperation within the educational community. In conclusion, the findings suggest that although teachers understood the aims of the Revised Nuri Curriculum, a considerable gap remains between ideals and reality. Therefore, it is necessary to strenghten teacher autonomy and professionalism, provide effective field-based support, and establish a collaborative system within the educational community.
