Abstract
This study aims to explore the conceptual structure of career guidance difficulties perceived by parents of middle school students and to propose support measures. Utilizing concept mapping, interviews with 12 parents yielded 46 final statements, which were analyzed through multidimensional scaling (ALSCAL) and hierarchical cluster analysis based on similarity, importance, and experience consistency ratings. Results identified two dimensions: “school-originated vs. society-originated difficulties” and “home-based vs. linkage-based difficulties.” Seven clusters emerged: “parental individual difficulties (competency, psychological, information),” “communication issues with children,” “insufficient school/policy support,” “lack of home-school-society-policy linkage,” “financial difficulties,” “social atmosphere pressures,” and “children's developmental limitations.” Notably, parents prioritized “financial difficulties,” “lack of linkage,” “insufficient support systems,” and “individual difficulties” as the most critical factors. This study provides foundational data for developing parental career guidance policies, educational programs, and an integrated support system linking home, school, society, and policy.
