Abstract

There are urgent needs for developing students' moral creativity in moral education according as we gradually approach to the midst of Information evolution. How can we develop students' moral creativity? Synectics is a possible answer to this question. Synectics is an interesting approach to the development of creative ethical problem-solving. Synectics using metaphoric activity is designed to provide a structure through which persons can free themselves to develop imagination and insight into everyday activities. Synectics method in moral education helps us to remedy the arguments of moral particularism and to facilitate cooperative construction of moral knowledge among students. There are two methods of teaching based on Synectics in moral education. ‘Creating something new’ is designed to make the familiar strange. ‘Making the stranger familiar’ is designed to make new, unfamiliar ideas more meaningful. The major differences between the two methods lies in their use of analogy. In the former method, students move through a series of analogies without logical constraints. In the latter method, students try to connect two ideas and to identify the connections as they move through the analogies.
