본 논문에서는 윤리학에서 분노가 차지하고 있는 위상을 탐구해 보고자 했다. 분노에 대한 윤리적 질문에는 이중적 대답이 있다. 하나는 분노를 긍정하는 입장이고, 다른 하나는 부정하는 입장이다. 분노를 지지하는 입장에서는 분노를 도덕감, 정의, 용기 등과 같은 덕으로 간주하고 분노의 표출을 도덕적 행위양식으로 본다. 분노의 감정을 표출하는 것이 의분으로서 도덕 판단이고 도덕적 행위가 된다는 것이다. 아리스토텔레스(Aristoteles)는 분노는 중용의 상태인 온화함과 통한다고 봤다. 분노를 드러내게 하는 것은 실천적 지혜이다. 실천적 지혜는 올바른 공적 행동과 실천을 위해 반드시 필요한 지혜이다. 분노하지 않는 것을 도덕적 결함을 가진 것으로 본 것이다. 이에 비해서 분노를 부정하는 입장은 분노를 어떤 위협에 대한 불합리한 반응으로 본다. 기독교에서는 분노를 품는 것을 죄악으로 여긴다. 불가에서는 진(anger)을 악행의 근본이 되기 때문에 제거해야 한다고 본다. 유가에서 분노는 칠정의 하나인 노로써 여러 감정 중의 하나로 생각되고 있다. 잘못된 감정표현으로 보고 분노는 참아야 하고, 욕심은 막아야 한다고 했다. 스토아(Stoa) 학파도 분노를 전적으로 부정적으로 본다. 분노에 사로잡히면 어떠한 의무도 망각한다는 것이다. 선악의 관계로 볼 때 분노를 이중적인 관점에서 해석하는 것은 동서양을 막론하고 역사와 함께 존재해왔다. 분노의 윤리학적 자격은 분노감정 그 자체 보다는 분노가 유발되는 원인과 분노의 기능에서 찾아볼 수 있겠다. 분노의 윤리는 정당한 분노일 경우는 중용을 유지하는 것이 하나의 지침이 될 수 있겠고. 정당성을 확보할 수 없다면 금욕윤리의 지침을 따르는 것이 현명하다 하겠다. 분노의 감정은 인간의 행동과 실천에 관한 윤리학과 분리될 수 없는 개념이다. 실천윤리 영역에서 분노는 감정윤리, 덕윤리, 금욕윤리, 관계윤리 등과 상관적인 윤리학적 의미를 지니고 있다. 분노 윤리학을 동질적으로 체계화 하는 것은 쉽지 않다. 그렇다고 해서 분노를 현상적 감정 차원에서 상대적 사실로만 이해하고 당위를 간과한다면 윤리학의 역할을 소홀히 하는 것이다. 바람직한 삶을 지향하기 위해서는 분노 감정의 조절, 표현, 완화에 대한 당위적 지침들을 지속적으로 탐구할 필요가 있다 하겠다. 본 논문에서는 분노의 의미와 원인, 정당한 분노, 부당한 분노, 분노의 윤리적 실천을 검토함으로써 분노의 윤리학적 위상을 찾아보고자 했다.
Abstract
This study is intended to explore ethics of anger. We think anger is a normal emotion and everyone experiences anger. There are two perspective to ethical questions about anger. One is in a position to affirm anger, and the other one is in a position to deny anger. Someone tend to think that anger is a bad emotion. They consider anger as moral virtues like courage, justice, virtue. Aristoteles thinks that the moderation in state of anger is the gentleness. Dealing anger moderately is practical wisdom. He thinks that someone who does not rage has moral defective. The others thinks anger is a kind of negative emotion. Christians believe that they should not be angry. Buddha thinks that anger is the root of evil. Confucianism thinks anger is one of the many emotions. But we should endure angry. When anger is out of control, it can lead to poor decision making. Anger create problems with relationships. Ethics of anger should not be practical criterion for bad person. In order to understand anger, I had to explore different perspectives. I studied on the cause of anger. And I compared the righteous anger with the unjust anger. I want to establish the ethics of anger. If we manage anger moderately, it prompts us to make positive growth in our lives. I think that ethics of anger should be the criterion of controling the anger emotion.
