Abstract
In the early 20th century, Russian prose was strongly influenced by poetry and music. As a result, prose language has a multi-layered meaning as much as poetic language through metaphors, metonymy, synecdoche, and rhythm. In addition, leitmotiv structure based on repetition become an important organizational principle of prose text. In Evgeny Zamyatin’s We, images and leitmotiv structures arise and develop in the process of transformation of D-503. The transformation is expressed by the humanization process and poet motif. The humanization process is a process in which D-503 changes from a machine to a human. It is the process of transforming into a human who knows how to feel the most human emotions of compassion and pain. Poet motif refers to the change of D-503 from a mathematician to a poet. A poet is a person who can see the other side of the world. So this transformation works on the problem of D-503’s perception of world. It goes to the stage of recognizing that there is another world beyond the surface world. Zamyatin’s We create a lyrical narrative through this images and leitmotiv structure, and at the same time make the entire work into a unified overall structure.
