이 글은 미국 정치학에 대한 한국 정치학의 대외의존성(종속성)에 관심을 갖고, 이를 타개할 수 있는 방안을 모색하고자 한다. 이를 위해 한국의 정치학 입문서를 분석하면서 입문서가 서구중심주의를 완화․극복하기 위해 취해야 할 방향을 제시하고자 한다. Ⅱ장은 미국 정치학의 지배적 위상과 한국 정치학의 대외의존적(종속적) 정체성을 간략히 검토할 것이다. Ⅲ장은 이를 예시하기 위해 한국 대학에서 널리 사용되는 입문서를 선택하여 개괄적으로 분석하면서, 의존성의 정도와 최근의 변화 추이를 살펴볼 것이다. 이 글의 핵심 주제를 구성하는 Ⅳ장은 지금까지의 논의와 검토를 토대로 하여, 한국의 입문서가 대외의존성을 극복하기 위해 따라야 할 지침을 제시하고자 한다.
Abstract
This paper is concerned with the dependency of Korean political science upon American political science and seeks to explore some strategies to cope with it. To do this, it analyzes introductory textbooks to political science which are widely used in Korean universities and suggests the directions the textbooks have to follow in order to mitigate or overcome endemic Western-centrism in Korean political science. Thus Chapter Ⅱ will briefly review the hegemonic status of American political science and the dependent status of Korean political science. Chapter Ⅲ will examine the degree of dependency and recent signs of positive change. On the basis of this examination, Chapter Ⅳ will suggest some positive guidelines which Korean textbooks should follow in order to mitigate or overcome Western-centrism.
