Abstract

In modern society, the science-technology is highly developed and most ofthe people are living an affluent life. Nevertheless, many people in our societyare thinking that they are not free and happy. We are still suffering and dyingin torment. Why on earth are human beings still suffering in pain? In thisviewpoint, the aim of this paper is to explore the theory of the salvation inSpinoza's philosophy and Buddhism. For this, I will deal with following issues. To begin, I will focus on the point that Spinoza's philosophy and Buddhism areboth concerned to life's philosophy. Fundamentally, the theme of Spinoza andthe Buddha is ethical. To repeat, It is based on how a human being can live alife free and reach the nirvana escaping from human suffering. In the secondpart of this paper, I will show that they all pay attention to the suffering. Also,I elucidate what the suffering is and where it comes from in Spinoza'sphilosophy and Buddhism. And finally, then is it inevitable that human beingsare bound to succumb to the pain? No, it is not. It is true that humansuffering is a fundamental condition in our life. But Spinoza and the Buddhaemphasize human beings can move toward freedom and nirvana.
