사회지배 지향성이 사회적 약자에 대한 태도에 미치는 영향: 공감의 조절효과

본 연구는 사회지배 지향성이 사회적 약자에 대한 태도에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고자 하였다. 또한 사회지배 지향성과 사회적 약자에 대한 태도의 관계에서 공감의 조절효과가 있는지를 확인하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 사회지배 지향성, 공감 및 사회적 약자에 대한 태도(빈곤층을 위한 복지정책에 반대하는 태도와 이주민에 대한 호감을 나타내는 사회적 거리감)를 측정하는 질문지를 구성하여, 293명의 대학생에게 실시하였다. 수집된 자료를 토대로 상관분석 및 조절효과를 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 사회지배 지향성, 공감 및 사회적 약자에 대한 태도의 상관분석 결과, 사회지배 지향성은 공감과는 부적 상관, 복지정책에 대한 태도(복지반대) 및 이주민에 대한 사회적 거리감과는 각각 정적 상관, 그리고 공감은 복지정책에 반대하는 태도와, 이주민에 대한 사회적 거리감과 각각 부적 상관이 유의하였다. 또한 사회지배 지향성과 복지정책에 대한 태도 및 이주민에 대한 사회적 거리감 각각의 관계에서 공감의 조절효과가 유의하였다. 그러나 이러한 조절효과를 성별로 나누어 검증한 결과, 남성의 경우에는 사회지배 지향성이 복지정책에 반대하는 태도 및 이주민에 대한 사회적 거리감에 미치는 영향이 공감수준에 따라 다르지 않았으며, 여성의 경우에는 사회지배 지향성과 이주민에 대한 사회적 거리감 간의 관계에서 공감의 조절효과가 유의하였다. 사회지배 지향성이 사회적 약자에 대한 태도에 영향을 주며, 사회지배 지향성과 사회적 약자에 대한 태도 간의 관계에서 공감이 조절효과를 갖는다는 본 연구의 결과로 볼 때, 사람들의 사회지배 지향성을 낮추고 공감력을 높이는 것이 사회적 약자에 대한 차별적 태도를 감소시키는 데 효과적일 수 있음이 시사된다. 끝으로, 사회지배 지향성 감소 및 공감력 증진을 위한 방안을 제시하고 본 연구의 제한점을 논의하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among social dominance orientation(SDO), empathy and attitudes toward the social weak(welfare policy to the need, social distance toward migrants). To examine this, 293 college student-participants were asked to complete the questionnaires pertaining to SDO, empathy and attitudes toward the social weak. The correlation analysis, t-test, and stepwise regression analyses were conducted on the data. The results of the analysis showed: (1) negative correlation between SDO and empathy; positive correlations between SDO and 2 attitudes toward the social weak, respectively; negative correlations between empathy and 2 attitudes toward the social weak, respectively, (2) significant moderating effects of empathy between SDO and 2 attitudes toward the social weak, respectively, and (3) only in women, significant moderating effect of empathy between SDO and social distance toward migrants. The implications and limitations of this study were discussed.
