기후변화가 인류 문명을 위기로 몰아가고 있다는 것과 현재의 기후변화는 인간에 의해 발생한 것이라는 점은 이제 부정하기 힘든 사실이다. 이 논문은 이런 상황에서 기후변화에 적극적으로 대처할 의무를 지구공동체 구성원 각자에게 부과하는 정당한 길을 모색하는 것을 목표로 한다. 기후변화를 유발하는 온실가스 배출을 줄일 개인적 의무를 인간 개개인에게 부과하는 것은 이른바 사소함의 문제에 직면한다. 이 논문에서는 사소함의 문제를 해결하기 위한 몇 가지 시도들을 소개하고, 온실가스 배출량 감소 노력처럼 기후변화와 관련된 행동에서 개인의 의무를 윤리적으로 정당하게 규정하려는 몇 가지 접근법을 살펴본다. 대표적으로 공정한 몫의 개념을 도입하는 바츠, 칸트의 윤리이론에 의지하는 렌트미스터, 그리고 아퀴나스의 덕 이론을 활용한 다르의 시도를 간략하게 살펴본다.
Abstract
It is now hard to deny that climate change is driving human civilization into a crisis and that the current climate change is a anthropogenic problem. This paper aims to find a just way of imposing on each member of the global community the individual duty to actively respond to climate change in this situation. Typically, imposing a individual obligation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that causes climate change on each individual faces the so-called problem of inconsequentialism. In this paper, I introduce some attempts to tackle the problem of inconsequentialism, and look at some approaches to ethically justify individual duties in climate change-related actions, such as efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. I will review briefly, representatively Christian Baatz, who introduced the concept of a fair share, Casey Rentmeester, who relied on Kant's ethical theory, and Ryan Darr, who applied Aquinas' theory of virtue.
