The purpose of this study was to verify the mediating role of trust in the leader's ability in the relationship between the perceived coaching ability of the leader and team cohesion of rowing athletes. To achieve this purpose, data were collected from 207 rowing athletes registered with the Korean Rowing Association in 2023 using a questionnaire consisting of scales of perceived coaching ability, team cohesion, and trust in the leader's ability, including personal characteristic items. The following results were obtained. First, the structural model set in this study was valid, and the coaching ability of the leader had a positive effect on team cohesion. Second, trust in the leader's ability mediated the effect of the coaching ability of the leader on team cohesion. In conclusion, the team cohesion of rowing athletes can be determined by their perceived coaching ability of the leader. In this process, the level of trust in the leader's ability can affect the impact. Therefore, it is important for leaders to build trust with their athletes.
