초록
The objective of this study was to examine the relationship between stress and physical activity behaviour among adults, utilising data from the inaugural year of the 9th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES), conducted by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency. The cross-tabulation analysis of stress perception and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity yielded significant associations with gender, high-intensity physical activity (days), moderate-intensity physical activity (days), and high-intensity leisure physical activity. The logistic regression analysis demonstrated that gender, high-intensity physical activity (days), moderate-intensity physical activity (days), and high-intensity leisure physical activity had a significant impact on stress perception (p < 0.05). The odds of experiencing stress were 1.45 times higher for women than for men. As the level of high-intensity physical activity increased, the likelihood of experiencing stress decreased by approximately 46.1% (OR = 0.539, p = 0.004). While exercise is a crucial factor in promoting health, excessive physical activity or insufficient recovery can have negative effects on both physical and mental health. It is therefore essential to maintain a balance between appropriate intensity and rest in order to promote long-term health. Based on the findings of this study, future research should examine the relationship between the causes of stress, coping mechanisms and physical activity. Additionally, incorporating potential confounding variables and refining the analytical model will enhance the reliability of future studies. The use of objective measures of physical activity will reduce dependence on self-reported data and enable more comprehensive research approaches using accurate data.
Abstract
The objective of this study was to examine the relationship between stress and physical activity behaviour among adults, utilising data from the inaugural year of the 9th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES), conducted by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.
