초록

This study examined the ‘literature’ domain of the common curriculum in the 2009 Revised Korean Curriculum. What are emphasized in the revision are as follows. First, it grouped the grades into 1st‐2nd grades, 3rd‐4th grades, 5th‐6th grades, and 7th‐9th grades in consideration of learners’ development stages. Second, it emphasized readers’ subjective and active interpretation of literary works. Third, it emphasized the combination of literary knowledge and learning activities. Fourth, it emphasized the ethical functions of literature. Fifth, it accommodated changes in literature brought by multimedia although a separate ‘media’ domain had been removed. Major issues of this revision are as follows. First, there was the issue of which should be chosen between attitude and culture in the contents system. This revision chose attitude. This causes the problem of overlooking learners’ activity, the context of literature, and systems and ideologies surrounding literature. I argued that culture should be chosen as the contents system in future revisions. Second, there was the issue of what should be included as the sub‐items of ‘reception and production.’ This revision included ‘understanding and interpretation of literary works, criticism and communication of literary works, and creation of literary works.’ Third, there was a discussion on the roles of writing education. It was clarified that the purpose of writing education is not for raising professional writers but for providing ordinary people with opportunities to write. Future revisions should consider the following. First, they should give up attachment to consistence in the system. Second, admitting the viewpoint of the theory of literary therapy, the curriculum should accommodate literary works dealing with problems experienced by learners in their growth stage, and learning activities should also take interest in learners’ emotional purification. Third, criteria for assessing achievements should include those related to ‘value’ and ‘theme.’
