한국언론에 비춰지는 유럽연합의 이미지에 관한 연구: 주요일간지 및 경제지를 중심으로
A Study on EU Images reflected on the Korean Media: Focusing on Major Dailies and Economic Paper

본 논문은 국내 대표적인 신문매체인 조선일보와 중앙일보 그리고 대표적인 경제매체인 매일경제신문에 실린 EU관련기사의 내용에 근거한 국내 중심성, 중요도, EU관련 행위자, 주제적 프레이밍, EU와 그 행위자에 관련된 평가 그리고 개념적 은유에 따른 표현들을 분석 하였다. 본 논문의 연구결과를 살펴보면 조사대상인 한국의 신문들은 EU 에 초점을 맞추기 보단 자국에 초점을 맞추어 EU를 보도하였다. 중요도면에서 살펴보면, 중앙일보와 매일경제는 EU를 부차적인 주체로 두고 보도하였으며, EU의 그리스 채무사태에 관련된 EU기관, 회원국, 관료들이 언론의 집중을 받았다. 무엇보다, EU관련뉴스에서 경제적 프레이밍을 담은 기사가 다른 프레이밍 보다 눈에 띄었는데, EU에 관한평가는 그리스 채무사태로 말미암아 부정적인 평가가 컸다. EU에 관한 개념 은유적 표현들도 이러한 부정적 평가를 반영한 비관적 표현이 발견 되었다. 위의 분석결과를 살펴보면, 아직도 한국의 신문들은 EU의 경제적인 이미지에 관심을 기울이고 있음을 알 수있었으며, 그리스 채무사태로 말미암아 EU에 관한 한국의 신문들의 평가가 부정적으로돌아섰음을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 일련의 이미지로 미루어볼 때, 한국 여론의 EU에 대한 인식의 변화가 부정적으로 흘러 갈 가능성이 높으며, 한 가지 우려 되는 점은 이러한 부정적인 평가가 EU에 관한 정치적 사회적 이슈로 옮겨질까 하는 점이다. 따라서한-EU관계가 좀 더 다양한 분야로 확장 되고 심화되면서, 후속연구에서는 이러한 인식변화를 꾸준히 관찰 하는 것이 중요하다.
Abstract
The researchers of this paper collected EU-related news items in two Korean prestigious newspapers (Chosun and Joongang Dailies) and economic newspapers (Maeil Kyungje Shinmun) from April to June 2015. We analysed the collected articles based on six elements of substantive characteristics in order to explore EU discursive representations. The six elements are focus of domesticity, degree of centrality, EU actors, thematic framings, evaluation and the expressions based on conceptual metaphors. This paper could draw out following findings. First, Korean newspapers were more likely to employ ‘local context’ or ‘local hook’ in reporting EU-related news articles. In terms of ‘degree of centrality’, Joongang Daily and Maeil Kyungje Shinmun were more likely to report the EU as a secondary theme in their articles. The media were more likely to focus on EU institutions, member states and official who are related with Greek debt crises. Like the empirical studies, EU-related economic framing was the most evident than other framings. Recently, the Korean media gave negative evaluation to the EU. Considering these aspects of EU images in the Korean media, the Korean public understandings about the EU would become negative. Furthermore, such negative evaluation would spread to other aspects of Korean society. As EU-Korea relations becoming diversified and deepened, future research should continuously investigate the dynamics of EU images.
