문화적 실천으로서 스포츠의 사회적 의미를 분석하기 위해 다양한 사회과학 이론들이적용되어 왔지만 스포츠와 정치의 관계를 설명하는 데는 한계가 있다. 기존의 연구들은주로 스포츠를 정치의 수단으로 간주하지만 스포츠와 정치의 관계는 복합적이고 이런 관계는 정체성의 정치 개념을 적용하면 많은 부분 설명될 수 있을 것으로 보인다. 특히 축구는 세계에서 가장 인기 있는 스포츠로 그에 따라서 다양한 층위의 집단 정체성이 투사되어 있어서 정체성의 정치 개념을 적용해서 분석할 수 있는 적절한 스포츠 영역이다. 이논문은 유럽에서 근대 스포츠로 성립된 축구에 투사된 계급, 지역, 민족 등의 정체성과그 정체성들의 변화를 추적하면서 축구에 내장된 정치적 함의를 분석하려고 시도했다.
Abstract
The social meanings of sports as a cultural practice are analysed through application of divers theories in social sciences. However it seems to be unsuccessful to explain the relationship between politics and sports. While most of researches consider sports as political means, their relations are complexe and this complexity can be properly explained by the application of the concept of identity politics. In particular, the football is a suitable area to which the concept of identity politics can be applied, as it is the most popular sports in the world and therefore divers group identities are projected into the football, This paper attempts to investigate the identities of class, locality and nation which are articulated to the football from its establishment as a modern sports in Europe and their transformation, and to analyse its political implications.
