스웨덴은 다문화 사회로의 전환 과정에서 이민자와 난민의 사회적 통합이라는 중요한 과제에 직면해 있다. 특히 축구는 이러한 사회적 통합의 도전을 해결하는 데 있어 강력한 도구로 자리 잡았다. 본 논문은 축구와 사회통합의 상관관계를 분석하며, 즐라탄 이브라히모비치, 알렉산데르 이삭, 코소바레 아슬라니와 같은 이민자 배경의 선수들이 스웨덴 축구와 사회에 미친 영향을 조명한다. 이 선수들의 사례를 통해 축구가 이민자들의 사회적, 문화적 적응을 돕고, 다문화적 정체성을 형성하며, 편견과 불평등을 극복하는 데 어떤 역할을 하는지 탐구한다. 또한, 축구 클럽이 운영하는 통합 프로그램과 이를 통해 형성된 사회적 연결망이 이민자 청소년들의 자아 정체성과 공동체 의식에 미치는 영향을 살펴본다. 본 연구는 축구가 단순한 스포츠를 넘어 지속 가능한 사회통합의 매개체로 작동할 가능성을 제시하며, 스웨덴의 사례가 다문화 사회에서 스포츠의 역할을 재조명하는 데 기여할 수 있음을 논의한다.
Abstract
Sweden faces critical challenges in fostering social integration amid its transition into a multicultural society. Football has emerged as a pivotal tool in addressing these challenges, particularly in integrating immigrants and refugees. This paper investigates the interplay between football and social integration in Sweden, focusing on the contributions of immigrant-background players such as Zlatan Ibrahimović, Alexander Isak, and Kosovare Asllani. Through their experiences, the study highlights how football facilitates social and cultural adaptation, promotes multicultural identity, and helps overcome prejudice and inequality. Furthermore, the paper examines integration programs operated by football clubs, analyzing their impact on immigrant youth in building social networks, fostering self-identity, and cultivating a sense of community. By presenting football as a mechanism for sustainable social cohesion, this research underscores its significance beyond sports and suggests that Sweden’s model can offer valuable insights into the role of sports in multicultural societies.
