초록

Introduction: This case report describes the clinical improvement in unilateral horizontal gaze palsy caused by middle cerebral artery infarction following traditional Korean medicine treatment. Case Report: A patient with right M1 segment occlusion of the middle cerebral artery exhibited left horizontal gaze palsy, hemiparesis, facial palsy, and dysarthria. At admission, both eyes showed limited conjugate movement to the left. Treatment included daily acupuncture, electroacupuncture, and Bouyang Huanwu-tang three times daily. Gaze improvement was assessed using photographic analysis by measuring the ratio between pupil deviation and half of the scleral exposure width. By hospital day 16, the horizontal gaze palsy had completely resolved. Conclusion: Traditional Korean medicine may be beneficial for treating horizontal gaze palsy associated with cerebral infarction.
