Abstract

This article deals with mythic stories of Naxi tribe in China, focusing on creation, flood, hero and war motifs from a comparative point of view. This article also tries to investigate the similarities and differences with another myths of minor ethnic groups, Han tribe and Korean people through comparative study, and further search for the unique thinking way and system of Naxi tribe as well as the universal thinking of ancient people. In conclusion, there contain a lot of maternal society characteristics, Totemism, Shamanism and Ancestor worship in myths of Naxi. Next, Naxi myths emphasize harmony and compromise with nature. Third, Naxi myths show us the clear classification between good and evil, symbol of numbers and concept myths which are very unique among Chinese myths as well. Fourth, Naxi myths mainly consist of egg-birth motif, which is similar to Koguryo Jumong myth and Jiandi birth myth of Yin dynasty, but the process of birth is different a lot. Flood and marriage motif of Naxi tribe is slightly different from those of south eastern minor groups in terms of the process order or structure. Besides, there are a lot of motifs such as stone, half-man half-animal, marriage between human and animal, rebirth, nature world, mountain worship, cosmic pole(or tree), chaos before the creation of Heaven and Earth.
