본 연구에서는 장애 발생 이후 스포츠 활동에 참여하는 여성 척수장애선수의 스포츠 적응 과정을 이해하기 위하여 1명의 여성 척수장애선수가 연구참여자로 참여하였다. 반구조화된 질문을 통한 연구참여자와의 심층 면담으로 자료 수집을 실시하였으며, 수집된 자료는 Colaizzi(1978)의 현상학적 분석방법을 이용하여 일반적인 내용을 묶어 추상화시키고 의미 있는 주제를 도출해낸 후 개인적 관심과 공통적인 속성을 도출하였다. 연구참여자는 장애발생 이전에는 평범한 사람이었으나, 교통사고로 인하여 장애를 입은 후 가족의 도움으로 재활에 성공할 수 있었다. 그리고 휠체어테니스 지도자의 권유로 본격적인 휠체어테니스 활동에 참여하게 되었다. 휠체어테니스를 시작하면서 연구참여자는 생리적 문제, 가족과의 갈등, 여성의 미적본능 유지의 어려움 그리고 경제적인 문제 봉착 등의 어려움들이 발생하였다. 이러한 어려움들은 새로운 기구 사용, 가족과의 갈등 해결을 위한 대화, 장애에 적응하고 선수로서의 성공하고 싶은 욕망 그리고 대회 출전에 따른 상금과 지원금 등으로 해결할 수 있었다. 그리고 연구참여자는 스포츠의 긍정적 기능들을 다른 장애인들에게 알리는 사람이 되었다.
Abstract
This research had a female player with a spinal cord injury joining it as a research participant in order to understand the adjustment process to sports of a female player suffering with a spinal cord injury participating in sports activities. This research collected the needed data with an in-depth interview with the participant through semi-structured questions, and managed to elicit a personal concerns and common attribute after making general contents into the abstract by wrapping them up and eliciting a meaningful main subject, using Colaizzi's(1978) phenomenological method. The participant in this research is used to be a common person before having the disability, but she was able to make her rehabilitation process a success with the help of her family after getting a disability from a traffic accident. In addition, by the encouragement of a wheelchair tennis coach, she got to participate in wheelchair tennis activities early. As she began to play wheelchair tennis, she suffered from several hardships, such as her physiological problems, conflict with her family, trouble in keeping up a woman's aesthetic instinct, and confrontation with economic concerns. However, she could solve such hardships through the use of new devices, conversation to dissolve conflicts with her family, desires to adapt herself to her disabilities and to make a success as a player, and prizes and support funds subsequent to participation in games; further, the participant turned a person to convey positive functions of sports to other people with disabilities.
