Abstract
The purpose of this study was to understand the participation process of the individuals with spinal cord injury in wheelchair tennis. This study was conducted as qualitative methodology. Nine athletes who have participated in wheelchair tennis more than six month were selected for this study. Data were obtained from in depth interview, artifacts, and field observations. Data analysis was used content analysis. Results reveled that core stages with initiation of wheelchair tennis were characterized by 'the stage of exclusion from both environment and self', 'the stage of encounter with uncertain informations', and 'the stage of collision of reason and emotion'. In addition, the stage of adjustment of wheelchair tennis was separated by two sub domain: 'discovery of new self' and 'rediscovery of us'. Results were interpreted in terms of 'Transtheoretical Model'. These finding will be referred to the variety of strategies aim for facilitation of participation in wheelchair tennis.
