발달재활서비스에서 건져 낸 특수체육의 가치와 가능성: 성인기 자폐성 자녀를 둔 두 어머니의 경험 이야기

본 연구는 성인기 자폐성 장애인 자녀를 둔 두 어머니의 특수체육을 포함한 발달재활서비스에 대한 경험 이야기를 이해하고 특수체육의 의미를 탐구하고자 실시하였다. 이러한 연구목적을 달성하기 위해 Foucault의 지식·권력 개념을 이론적 틀로 제시하였고, Clandinin과 Connelly의 내러티브 연구방법을 적용하였다. 연구자는 2021년 3월부터 5월까지 총 4회에 걸쳐 두 명의 성인기 자폐성 장애인 자녀의 어머니인 신여사, 최여사와 심층 인터뷰를 진행하였다. 모든 인터뷰 내용은 녹음한 뒤 전사하였고 내러티브 분석 자료로 활용하였다. 연구 참여자의 경험 이야기는 Clandinin과 Connelly(2000)가 경험 분석의 틀로 제시한 3차원 내러티브 탐구공간(three dimensional narrative inquiry space)과 경험의 네 가지 방향성(four narrative inquiry directions)을 토대로 분석하였다. 탐구 결과에서 신여사의 경험 이야기를 ‘질책과 질타, 그리고 사회와의 단절’, ‘끄집어내야 하는 아이’, ‘한 걸음 물러나니 찾아온 깨달음’으로, 최여사의 경험 이야기를 ‘의학적, 객관적 장애’, ‘규준을 향한 에스컬레이터의 환상’, ‘전진과 퇴각, 욕망과 현실’로 풀어낼 수 있었다. 두 어머니의 경험 이야기로부터 자폐성 장애 가족의 발달재활서비스 경험과 장애 담론의 교섭 양상, 그리고 정상성(normality)을 향한 신화의 수용과 해체 과정을 이해할 수 있었다. 이러한 가운데 체육은 다른 치료와 다르게 다양한 외부 세계와의 접촉을 통해 삶과 직접 연관된 움직임을 만들어내는 체험 교육의 장이자, 사회적 통합 경험의 가능성을 내포하고 있다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 장애 자녀의 부모는 자녀의 나이에 상관없이 언제나 치료를 통해 자녀가 정상이 되었으면 하는 마음을 품고 있다. 하지만 정상성 신화를 향해 질주하는 것은 장애인 당사자뿐만 아니라 가족 간의 갈등과 좌절감을 초래할 수 있다. 따라서 발달재활서비스 실행의 속도가 빨라지는 지금 시기에 특수체육을 비롯한 관련 학계, 현장 전문가들은 서비스가 시행되는 과정에서 얻을 수 있는 가치들을 간과한 채 장애인 가족들로 하여금 맹목적으로 정상성이라는 협소한 목표만을 바라보게 하고 있지 않은지 성찰할 필요가 있다.
Abstract
This study was understanding the experiences of developmental rehabilitation services including adapted physical activity for two mothers of adults with autism and to explore the meaning of adapted physical activity. To achieve the purpose of this study, Foucault's knowledge and power was used as a theoretical framework and applied Clandinin and Connelly's narrative research methods. The researcher conducted in-depth interviews with Mrs. Shin and Mrs. Choi, the mothers of adults with autism, from March to May 2021. All interviews were recorded and transcribed fornarrative analysis materials. The experience stories of the study participants were analyzed based on three-dimensional narrative inquiry spaces and four different directions of experience presented by Calandinin & Connelly(2000). As a result of the study, two-story was written; Mrs. Shin’s story by "criticism, reproach, and disconnection from society," "child to pull out," and "realization after taking a step back," and Mrs. Choi's story by "medical and objective disability," "escalator fantasy toward norm," "forward and retreat, desire and reality." From the story of the two mothers, this study found the negotiation process between family with autistic children and the discourse for acceptance and release from the myth of normality. And, adapted physical activity, unlike other treatments, created opportunities to learn natural movements directly related to life as experiential learning in living world, and included the possibility of social integration experiences. Parents of children with disability desire their children to be normal through treatment regardless of their age. However, if it runs toward normality, it can foster conflicts between family members. Now that the pace of implementation of developmental rehabilitation services is accelerating, academics experts and therapists in disability as subjects of discourse should reflect on whether they are promoting families of children with disabilities to look at the narrow goal of normality.
