본고는 표준국어대사전에서 외래어 ‘크리스마스’와 한자어 ‘성탄절’ 관련 표제어와 뜻풀이를 검색하는 과정에서, Jesus에 대응하는 음역어 ‘야소’와 외래어 ‘예수’를 주요 연구대상으로 삼고 관련있는 한중 음역어 연구를 진행했다. 영어권 말뭉치 및 한·중·영 학술 데이터베이스에서 ‘예수’ 관련 음역어 사용빈도를 분석함으로써 해당 단어의 사용 양상을 거시적으로 파악하고 비교하였으며, 시대별․문헌별로 중·한 음역어를 정리함으로써 양국 음역어의 변천과 영향 관계를 파악할 수 있었다.
Abstract
This study was initiated through an extensive examination of headwords and definitions related to the loanword ‘크리스마스’ (Christmas) and the Sino-Korean word ‘성탄절’ (聖誕節) as listed in the Standard Korean Dictionary. The focal point of this research lies in the exploration of the Korean and Chinese transliterations corresponding to ‘Jesus’, specifically the transliteration ‘야소’ (耶蘇) and the foreign word ‘예수’ (Jesus). Employing a methodological approach, the study analyzes the frequencies of these transliterations in relation to ‘Jesus’ in English corpora, as well as within academic databases including the Korea Citation Index (KCI), China Academic Journals (CAJ), and the Web of Science Core Collections (WoS). Through this analysis, the study aims to achieve a holistic understanding and comparative perspective of the usage patterns of these transliterations. Furthermore, by categorizing the Korean and Chinese transliterations of ‘Jesus’ both chronologically and textually, the research endeavors to shed light on the changes and reciprocal influences of transliteration practices within the two languages.
