자료 분석을 위해 SmartPLS 3.0을 이용한 PLS-SEM(Partial Least Squares- Structural Equation Modeling) 분석을 실시하였다.
Abstract
By utilizing Homer and Kahle’s(1988) value-attitude-behavior hierarchy model in which personal values are viewed as a key factor motivating an individual’s behavior, and by focusing on Schwartz's(1992) higher order self-transcendence type, the current study intends to empirically investigate how universalism and benevolence influence attitudes toward consequences of consuming organic foods, which subsequently lead to intentions to consume organic foods. The samples for this study were primary grocery shoppers in the household at the age of 19 or older who had ever purchased organic foods. A self-administered online survey was administered on the panel members pre-recruited by a market research firm for data collection. A total of 420 usable responses were obtained after excluding unqualified, ineligible, and incomplete surveys. The data was analyzed using partial least squares (PLS) path modeling with SmartPLS 3.0 software. The results demonstrated that universalism was closely associated with attitudes toward all the consequences of consuming organic foods whereas benevolence had a significant effect on attitudes toward health-related, moral, and psychological consequences of consuming organic foods. Attitudes toward environmental, health-related, and psychological consequences of consuming organic foods showed significant positive effects on intentions to consume organic foods. In particular, the effects of attitudes toward health-related and psychological consequences of consuming organic foods were found to be greater than those of attitudes toward environmental consequences of consuming organic foods. These findings suggest that consumer attitudes to perceive that organic foods are beneficial for themselves and their family's physical and psychological health are a major determinant of promoting consumers to purchase organic foods. However, attitudes toward environmental consequences of consuming organic foods also positively influence intentions to consume organic foods. Thus, consumers should be enlightened on environmental consequences derived from organic food consumption, through consumer education programs and promotional campaigns.
