Abstract

The temporal modernity of the novel is embodied in the novelist's strengthened awareness of the new and old time. Strengthening the consciousness of historical time in novels; The initiation and evolution of the personal time of the characters in the novel, the re-spatial structure of the novel, etc. In a word, modernity is man's modern consciousness of time. On the whole, the academic research on the temporal modernity of novels is rich, but lacks systematicness. With the mood of seeking differences and seeking common ground, we have found two research clues that can be expanded: narrative time and modernity time. On the line of narrative time, the story time and the narrative time are deduced in opposition to each other so as to find the modern changes in the novel structure. On the line of modernity time, “inner subject time” is combined with the “psychological turn” of the characters in the novel to explain it. Dig up the progressive power of “modernity time”. In other words, the modern time in the novel is based on the theory of evolution, with the new and old time consciousness as the spiritual lifeblood of the novel, and the “progressive” dimension of time narrative is constructed according to the two historical subjects of the state and the individual.
