Abstract
Recently, many users spend their time watching others play games through live streaming platforms such as YouTube, Twitch, and Africa TV. Despite this new form of game consumption rapidly changing the video game industry, researchers have not paid enough attention to understand the game streaming audiences. Based on Uses and gratifications theory, this study examines four distinct types of determinants of the attitude towards the game streaming content: informativeness, entertainment, and social relationship with streamers/audiences. Furthermore, this study tries to disclose the relationship between game streaming viewing and the intention of adopting the game. This study lays the groundwork for understanding the emerging form of game consumer behavior regarding watching the live streaming. It also provides practical implications for game developers to establish marketing strategies utilizing game streaming content.
