Abstract
Recently, marketing using cuteness has been carried out in many fields. Cuteness is widely used not only in commonly used low-involvement products but also in high-involvement products, and it is necessary to check the effect of cute in debit card that are widely used. In particular, in the Korean consumption-related studies, there are not enough studies that have verified the influence of cuteness. In general, when peoples’ exposure to cuteness leads to positive evaluations. However, it was confirmed that cuteness does not necessarily lead to a positive effect, and the effect of cuteness varies depending on the amount of information presented along with cuteness. This study was conducted on 79 female college students, and between-subject design to 2 (cuteness: cute vs. non-cute) x 2(amount of information: plenty vs. a few). As a result of the study, interaction effects were found in the intention to use and recommend intention among consumer evaluation. When the cute designs with plenty amount of information, and when the non-cute designs with a few amount of information, was more positive affected use intentions, recommendation intentions, and faster time to first fixation for information area. Along with these results, mediating moderating effect was found that the time to first fixation for information area mediated the use intention and recommendation intention according to cuteness and the amount of information. In debit card, this study aims to explain the emotion of cuteness increases the motivation to process information and the consumer evaluation to theoretical implications. In addition, this study intends to provide practical implications to marketers who design debit card.
