Abstract
Trip booking is a complex decision-making process involving various factors such as flights, accomodation, and public transportation. In particular, in the case of overseas travel, people usually choose a destination with no prior experience and booking and payment are often made significantly earlier than the actual service consumption. In addition, consumers perceive high risk because the payment is made to an agency while the service provider is a local company. Recently, the booking structure of overseas travel products has shifted toward Online Travel Agencies (OTAs). This shift has further increased the importance of digital travel literacy, which refers to the ability to search and process information. This study defines digital travel literacy and explores the influence of travel risk perception and involvement. For this study, an online survey was conducted with 400 consumers in their 20s to 50s who had prior experience booking travel through an OTA. Based on the collected data, principal component analysis and hierarchical regression analysis were performed. The results showed that digital travel literacy tends to increase with higher levels of involvement, while it decreases among consumers with lower household income and those who perceive higher online reservation risk. This study fills academic gaps in existing research on digital literacy and makes a meaningful scholarly contribution by reflecting the unique characteristics of the travel consumption environment.
