민족 영웅 서사와 여성— 영화 「자오이만(趙一曼)」(1950)의 사례를 중심으로

Abstract

This paper attempts to analyze the narrative characteristics of the film Zhao Yiman, released in 1950 shortly after the founding of China, and the content of socialist female ideology reflected within it. Through this analysis, the study aims to reveal that while films produced in the early days of China superficially reflect ideologies such as ‘anti-Japanese, anti-American, anti-Kuomintang, anti-imperialism’, and ‘anti-feudalism,' they also have an underlying purpose of reflecting and actively promoting new social ideologies. Above all, Zhao Yiman, like other films dealing with the biography of anti-Japanese heroes, has not been considered for alternative interpretations due to its seemingly dogmatic content and purpose. However, within the context of Chinese film production at the time, the active emergence of female characters and their ‘masculinization' is undoubtedly a noteworthy characteristic. In this sense, a comprehensive examination of the narrative structure and production background of Zhao Yiman can provide important clues in elucidating the significance of future Chinese propaganda film production featuring female heroes as protagonists.
