재벌기업 지속가능성보고서의 이데올로기적 기능: 삼성SDI 사례 연구

삼성SDI는 재벌그룹 삼성의 계열사들 가운데 기업의 사회적 책임을 실천하는 대표적 기업으로 알려져 있다. 삼성SDI는 국내 최초로 지속가능성보고서를 발간하여 타 기업들의 전범이 되었고 매년 지속가능성보고서를 발간하고 있다. 본 연구는 삼성SDI 지속가능성보고서가 주장하고 있는 내용들을 경험적 사실에 비추어 분석함으로써 삼성SDI가 사회적 책임 경영을 수행하고 있는지, 삼성SDI가 왜 기업의 사회적 책임에 관심을 갖고 활동하며 지속가능성보고서를 발간하고 있는지, 삼성SDI의 사회적 책임 활동과 지속가능성보고서가 어떤 기능을 하고 있는지를 검토·설명하는 것이다. 삼성SDI 지속가능성보고서는 사회적으로 문제된 근로기준법 위반, 부당노동행위, 노동자 인권 유린 등을 고의적으로 배제하는 한편, 노사협의회 선거에 개입하여 활동가들을 탄압하면서도 노사협의회의 비밀선거 보장 등 노사협의회를 중심으로 신뢰와 상생의 노사문화를 실천한다고 주장하면서 진실을 왜곡하고 있다. 지속가능성보고서는 이해당사자들에게 악의의 피해를 입히지 말 것과 피해를 주었다면 발견 즉시 바로잡을 것이라는 두 가지 최소행위기준을 이행하지 않음으로써 사회적 책임 경영에 역행하고 있다. 삼성SDI가 일상적 경영에서 사회적 통합을 해치고 사회적 책임 경영을 거부하면서도 지속가능성보고서를 통해 사실을 은폐하고 진실을 왜곡하며 사회공헌 활동을 홍보하여 기업이미지를 개선하고자 한다. 삼성SDI가 사회적 책임 경영에 역행하는 경영전략을 바꾸지 않으면서 경영외적 활동과 보고서를 통해 시민들이 편향된 기업이미지를 갖도록 하는 것은 이데올로기적 조작행위이며, 삼성SDI의 사회적 책임에 대한 관심과 지속가능성보고서 발간의 동기가 이데올로기적 동기임을 확인시켜준다. 삼성SDI가 사회적 책임 경영을 실천하기 어렵게 하는 것은 주주모델 기업지배구조와 총수가치 경영이다.
Abstract
SamSung SDI has been well known as a forerunner in practices for CSR(corporate social responsibility) among those SamSung Chaebol's cororations. SDI has published SR(sustainability report) every year since it initiated the SR publication move a few years ago, providing its followers with the typical example. It is the objective of this study to analyze SDI's SRs in the light of hard facts so as to serve such questions as whether SDI puts CSR into practice properly, why SDI have an interest in practicing CSR and publishing SRs, what kind of functions SDI's CSR activities and SR publications do. SDI's SRs cover up on purpose its violation of labor laws regarding minimal labor standard and union organization as well as its infringement on workers' basic human rights. They distort the truth by alleging that SDI enjoys the confidence of workers and lives up to the culture of capital-labor coexistence with the operation of works council although SDI, in reality, keeps intervening in the electoral process for works council members. SDI's CSR activities and its SRs fail to live up to the two minimum behavioral standards for the CSR management which require corporations not to harm knowingly the interests of stakeholders and to rectify whatever misdeeds it did as soon as they come to catch its attention. SDI conceals or distorts the truth and propagates its philanthropic activities in order to ameliorate its own tainted image while it refuses to do the CSR management in its daily practices of management. SDI's extra-management CSR activities and SR reporting, which seduce consumers into a biased pro-company image of SDI, turns out to be an attempt loaded with ideological motivation and aimed at ideological manipulation. It is SDI's shareholder model of corporate governance along with its Chaebol-Head mode of management that prevents SDI from practicing the CSR management in a rational manner.
