최근 들어 국내외적으로 기업의 사회적 책임(Corporate Social Responsibility)이라는 개념이 관련 학계와 기업들에서뿐만 아니라 다양한 비정부조직 등을 통해 광범위하게 확산되고 있다. 또 사회적 책임을 다하는 기업들을 투자 대상으로 하는 사회책임투자(Socially Responsible Investment)에 대한 관심이 높아지면서 금융시장 내에서도 주목을 끌고 있다. 그러나 다양한 집단들의 높은 관심에 비하여 개념이나 용도는 아주 다양해서 CSR이라는 용어를 사용하는 집단이 누구인지에 따라 매우 다양하다. 이 연구는 우선 다양한 관점에서 제기되고 있는 CSR에 대한 다양한 접근법 중에서 주주자본주의에 입각한 주주가치 극대화 경영은 CSR 본래의 개념과 무관하며, 따라서 CSR은 이해당사자 중심의 기업관이나 기업경영을 출발점으로 삼아야 한다는 것을 주장한다. 나아가 총수 지배구조, 총수가치 경영이 보편화되어 있는 우리나라 재벌 대기업들의 주주가치 경영 및 사회적 책임 경영의 실태와 그 본질을 규명해 보고자 한다. 마지막으로 CSR의 이행조건으로서 재벌이 제기한 사회적 타협의 본질이 무엇이며, 재벌 대기업의 CSR을 제고하기 위한 전제조건이 무엇인지를 살펴볼 것이다.
Abstract
Recently, the concept of corporate social responsibility(CSR) takes a growing interest in academic and business world. Moreover many NGOs make an effort to institute codes of conduct or guidelines on CSR, and call companies' attention to observe it. Also in financial markets, we see the spread of socially responsible investment(SRI); investment practices to the companies which make an attempt to meet their social responsibilities. Notwithstanding highly concerns, the definitions, arguments and practical purposes of CSR have many spectrums according to the involving organizations. This study asserts that a management for shareholder value maximization fundamentally has no relation to the concept of CSR. Therefore the CSR management should be started from the stakeholder firm model and the concept of stakeholder management. The second argument of this article is focusing on trends of CSR in large companies belong to Korean Chaebols. In this argument, we conclude that the so-called CSR managements of many affiliated companies are essentially not for stakeholders but for dominant shareholders named 'family commander'. Lastly, we inquire into the social compromise as a condition for implementation of CSR, and suggest some preconditions to raise CSR activities of Korean Chaebol firms.
