Abstract

This study was aimed at indicating the viewers’ psychological tendency in the modern society by analyzing the current advertisements to define the emotional reaction effect of drama and vignette advertisements, one of story telling advertisements, may differ depending on the social and psychological gender differently to the previous studies. To find out the factors of the modern story telling by analyzing the factors of the story telling advertisements into verbal and non-verbal factors, the study analyzed 897 TV advertisements broadcasted from January 1 to June 30, 2016. As the result, differently to the advertisement story telling types suggested theoretically, vignette advertisements were the mostly frequently used type in the practical field which indicated that the consumers were focusing more on the repeating expressions than predicative and causal expressions and the consumers’ psychological tendency was more likely to be masculine. Second, the compositions of vignette advertisements were as in the following. ① By replacing the product with a model or personifying the product to set a positional relationship with the viewers, ② the model or narrative monologue made a speech. This speech ③ used the third-person expressions to indicate the product, the agent of the advertisement, ④ helped the viewers to feel that the product and the speaker and the listener were in the short distance, ⑤ and adjusted the point of view to enhance the emotional prediction about the product in the future. Differently to the previous factors, these factors realize more delicate marketing strategies. It indicates that the social phenomena and individual value changes as time goes, and the type and content of story telling advertisements shall express the changes as an individual’s interpretation about a social phenomenon change.
