안톤 체홉 「갈매기」 시노그래피 특성 연구 –무대 형상화 과정과 공연 적용 사례를 중심으로-

Abstract

Contemporary scenography in terms of directing has been considered as an important factor tobuild up a dramatic environment by integrating all necessary elements such as stage, scenery,object, sound, lighting, actor, and audience. Modern directors have paid much attention tocharacteristics and capabilities of the contemporary scenography. Especially much effort has beendedicated to visualization of the stage of Anton Chekhov’s The 「Seagull」. Existing studies havebeen concentrated on peer review analyses in terms of scenography or derivation ofscenographic characteristics. Few studies have been made on the implementation of scenographycomprehending the entire directing process. Seeking for capabilities of contemporary scenographyto foster creative dramatic environments, function, role, and inherent meaning of the scenographyare addressed on the basis of implementation process of the stage of the 「Seagull」 in thisstudy. Entire process of the implementation is studied to go beyond limitations of existingtheoretical discussions. Theme and symbolic meaning of The 「Seagull」 are visualized by buildingup three kinds of multi-layered visual spaces on the stage. The stage spaces are sub-dividedinto floor, side wall, and cyclorama. It is addressed how function and role of each visual sceneryis integrated, implemented, and symbolized in the play. The results of this study focus on theimplementation process of an actual performance because scenography are expected tocontribute to visual designs of stages in modern performances and especially enhancedunderstandings on the scenography applied in The 「Seagull」.
