Abstract
Rehabilitation exercise is not a treatment to reduce disability but rather an exercise or an activity that optimizes the function of the disabled. Its importance is emphasized because it helps restore social skills and improve physical function. In particular, rehabilitation exercise is critical because people with cerebral palsy usually lose motor function due to brain abnormalities or damage. This study advanced the study of mobile-based motivationdesign element to support ongoing rehabilitation exercises for students with cerebral palsy disorder. As for research method, first, the necessity of rehabilitation exercise and mobilebased rehabilitation services was identified by analyzing rehabilitation exercise devices for people with cerebral palsy. Second, based on self-determination theory, design element that can motivate user was mapped through three theories gamification strategy, learning motivation theory, and behavioral economics. Third, stakeholder interviews and field observations were conducted to understand the motivational designs necessary for people with cerebral palsy. Fourth, based on design element derived from literature research and the results of qualitative research, an analysis of the UX design elements which would encourage regular rehabilitation exercise was made. A synchronization inducement strategy was derived from three screens by grouping the top six motivational elements in a similar context including multimodal feedback, exercise status, and goal confirmation. Finally, a prototype was produced based on the expected output reflecting the result, and interviews were conducted with the stakeholders for verification. As a result, the prototype reflecting the design guide got a higher score than the existing services and in all items. This research is expected to be used for various rehabilitation exercise devices and services to be developed in the future.
