Abstract

Unless there were major changes in our lives, we would be living a repetitive daily routine. While living in these phenomena, the researcher paid attention to the ‘repeated daily life’ like this, and this study began with an attempt to express it as a work. The repetitive tying used in the production of the work was selected as a technical element in some processes of the tie-dyeing method, and through this, the researcher attempted to convey the meaning as a formative language expressing repetitive daily routines. The purpose of this study is to show that the repetitive tying method of tie-dyeing can be grafted as a technical element in the field of textile arts, and at the same time, to study and suggest the possibility of utilizing and developing it as a formative language. As a research method, first, examine the correlation between repetition and reincarnation through the Buddhist concept of reincarnation, a representative Eastern philosophy related to repetition, and theoretically examine the concepts of repetition and Tying and the characteristics and effects of each type through previous research. Afterwards, the background and process of the researcher’s work that was formed through this were examined. The work is produced through the act of repeatedly tying using cable ties, fabric, beads, etc., and through this, hundreds of reincarnations occur in the researcher’s work, and the work is finally completed. As a result of analyzing the produced works, it was found that there were differences in visual and formative effects depending on the materials and colors used, and the types of repetition and tying. Through theoretical consideration and analysis of the works through repetitive tying, it was possible to examine the effects and possibilities of repetition and tying using the tie-dye method as a formative language. Based on these research results, it is expected that follow-up research will continue through repetitive tying, and that this method will be further expanded and developed as a means of expressing new works in the field of fiber sculpture arts.
