Abstract
This study aims to enhance understanding of the second-hand clothing market by classifying consumer groups based on purchase motivations while analyzing differences in purchasing behavior and repurchase intentions among university students. A survey was conducted with 112 students who had purchased second-hand clothing within the past six months. Factor analysis identified five key motivational dimensions: economic value, design differentiation, environmental concern, investment utility, and habitual behavior. Based on economic value and design differentiation, participants were classified into four distinct consumer groups: “rational style seekers”, “value-driven pragmatists”, “premium design enthusiasts”, and “functional necessity-driven consumers”. ANOVA and Duncan’s post hoc test revealed significant differences in repurchase intentions among these groups. Notably, those with a strong design differentiation motivation particularly rational style seekers and premium design enthusiasts exhibited significantly higher repurchase intentions. This study intended to derive a sustainable growth strategy of the used trading market by deepening the consumer perception of used apparel market. These findings underscore the effectiveness of psychological and behavioral segmentation strategies in the second-hand clothing market and highlight the need for marketing approaches that emphasize emotional satisfaction and individual style expression over simple price competitiveness.
