Abstract

As smart healthcare technologies rapidly integrate into daily life, demand for personal health management products such as smart toothbrushes has steadily increased. In particular, the smart toothbrush market emphasizes user experience (UX) as a core competitive factor alongside technological advancement. Among key features, the pressure sensing function is regarded as a crucial technology for guiding proper brushing habits and protecting oral health. This study aims to evaluate the pressure sensing function of the U-smile smart toothbrush based on user feedback from the Chinese market and propose a direction for optimized design. The study targeted 200 users who had used the U-smile smart toothbrush for over one month, and data were collected through an online survey. The questionnaire covered pressure sensing accuracy, real-time feedback performance, interface usability, personalization of data analysis, user satisfaction, and overall user experience. The data were empirically analyzed through descriptive statistics, reliability and validity tests, correlation analysis, regression analysis, and mediation analysis. Results showed that both pressure sensing and real-time feedback had significant positive effects on user experience, and user satisfaction partially mediated the relationship between these variables and experience. In particular, the immediacy of feedback and the sensitivity of pressure detection impacted satisfaction, suggesting they should be prioritized in future design. This study confirms that incorporating user feedback is essential in smart toothbrush development and offers practical guidance, including the application of high-sensitivity sensors, ensuring real-time feedback, the design of intuitive interfaces, and the development of systems optimized for repeated user behaviors. Future research should address diverse user groups and usage contexts to develop more detailed and inclusive design guidelines. The findings serve as a valuable reference for user-centered smart healthcare innovation.
