우주 산업은 뉴 스페이스 시대로 전환되면서 본격적인 발전을 이루고 있다. 이에 본 연구의 목적은 뉴 스페이스 시대를 반영한 패션의 표현 특성과 의미에 대한 분석을 통해 뉴 스페이스 시대의 변화에 대한 인식을 마련하고 앞으로의 방향성을 제시하는 것에 목적이 있다. 연구의 방법은 선행 연구를 중심으로 뉴 스페이스 시대의 개념 그리고 우주 개발과 패션의 역사적 관련성을 살펴보고, 패션 관련 웹사이트 기사와 컬렉션 북에 나타난 2020년부터 2025년까지의 사례를 대상으로 뉴 스페이스 시대를 반영한 패션을 분석하는 것이다. 연구 범위를 한정한 이유는 민간 유인 우주선을 발사한 2020년부터 우주와 관련된 사례들이 증가하였기 때문이다. 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 뉴 스페이스 시대의 패션은 과거 스페이스 룩, 코스모코르 룩, 사이버 스페이스 패션과는 구별되며, 특히 2020년대에 들어 민간 우주 산업의 본격화와 함께 재확산되고 있다. 둘째, 뉴 스페이스 시대를 반영한 패션의 표현 특성은 우주 공간의 천체와 은하, 우주 에너지의 빛과 중력, 우주 환경의 생명체와 표면, 우주 탐사의 우주복과 우주선으로 나타났다. 셋째, 뉴 스페이스 시대를 반영한 패션은 미래와 과거, 낙관과 비관, 상상과 실재, 전유와 공유라는 상반된 의미가 공존하고 있었다. 넷째, 패션에서 우주는 여전히 미래와 상상의 주요한 영감으로 작용하였지만, 뉴 스페이스 시대는 올드 스페이스 시대와 달리 비관, 실재, 공유의 의미가 확장되었다는 차이점이 있었다. 우주 산업이 가속화될수록 상상과 실재, 전유와 공유라는 상반된 가치들의 균형이 뉴 스페이스 시대 패션의 의미 있는 발전에 중요한 부분이 될 것으로 보인다. 본 연구는 뉴 스페이스 시대의 변화와 관련하여 패션의 변화를 분석하였다는 데에 의의가 있다.
Abstract
The space industry is experiencing full-scale development as it transitions into the New Space Age. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the expressive characteristics and meanings of fashion reflecting the New Space Age, thereby fostering an understanding of the changes in the New Space Age and suggesting directions for the future. The research method is to examine the concept of the New Space Age and the historical relationship between space development and fashion, focusing on previous research, and to analyze fashion reflecting the New Space Age, based on cases from 2020 to 2025 in fashion-related website articles and collection books. The reason for limiting the scope of the study is that space-related cases have increased since 2020, when private manned spacecraft were launched. The conclusions of the study are as follows. First, fashion of the New Space Age is distinct from the Space look, Cosmocorps look, and Cyber Space fashion of the past, and has been re-trending particularly in the 2020s with the full-fledged development of the private space industry. Second, the expressive characteristics of fashion reflecting the New Space Age were expressed through celestial bodies and galaxies in space, light and gravity of space energy, life and surfaces in the space environment, and spacesuits and spaceships for space exploration. Third, fashion reflecting the New Space Age has conflicting meanings: future and past, optimism and pessimism, imagination and reality, and exclusiveness and sharing. Fourth, in fashion, space is still a major source of inspiration for the future and imagination, but unlike to the Old Space Age, the New Space Age is distinguished by the expanded meanings of pessimism, reality, and sharing. As the space industry accelerates, the balance between the conflicting values of imagination and reality, exclusiveness and sharing, will likely to be a crucial part of the meaningful development of the New Space Age fashion. The significance of this study lies in its analysis of changes in fashion regarding to the changes in the New Space Age.
