강원도의‘상징성’: 지역 차별화를 위한 Peirce의 삼부이론을 통한 Visual System Design에 관하여

Abstract

In the advent of 'a cultural contents age', each local government makes strenuous efforts to find out a unique prototype of its own culture. But their efforts have been made so far only to recover the existing traditional culture or to embody a traditional symbolic images accordingly. It pursues only a cultural preservation which is entirely unrelated to the differentiation strategy for securing a local culture competition system, which fails to provide them with a competitiveness for revitalizing local economy. Against this background, this study reanalyzed the symbolism based on Peirce's 'the model of triangle' and identified a perceptive structure of symbolism of the province of Kangwondo through a symbol quadrilateral. And this study took statistical measures through conducting an experimental survey to minimize the arbitrariness of symbolism.As a result, it was discovered that the visual and perceptive symbolic prototype of Kangwondo Province was represented by a 'sea horizon' among various formative factors, which tells that through the image presented, the symbolism on the 'natural level' is stronger than that on the 'cultural level' In addition, this study identified the symbolism that emphasized the 'peace' among various meanings that the goodness cherishes.
