Abstract
This study showed that consumers use different brand choice model depending on their consumer innovativeness. Whereas a high innovative group focuses on major product attributes(for example, CPU for a notebook), a low innovative group considers most attributes information complementary. A high innovative group mainly uses noncompensatory model, while a low innovative group uses a compensatory brand choice model. Through the experiment, we grouped 400 participants into high and low innovative groups. We then obtained their consistency ratio between their brand choice and the model's predicted choice. Being consistent with our predictions, for a high innovative group, the consistency ratio of noncompensatory model is 71.7%, while the ratio of compensatory model is 49%. On the other hand, for a low innovative group, the consistency ratio of compensatory model is 69.9%, while the ratio of noncompensatory model is 37%.
