Abstract
As film consumption continues to increase, the domestic film market has recently grown to a global level. Movie title is a key factor in consumers’ decision on a movie choice. Although previous studies suggest that processing fluency(i.e., conceptual and perceptual) on a product name is an important factor that affects product attitudes, no studies to date have looked at the effect of processing fluency in the context of a movie product. Also, even if imagery fluency is closely related to processing fluency(conceptual fluency), studies that investigate the mediating role of this variable are quite sparse. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the effect of processing fluency on a movie title on movie product attitudes. In particular, this study investigates how imagery fluency mediates the relationship between processing fluency and product attitudes and how this mediation effect changes depending on the two types of the processing fluency. In order to test the research hypotheses, movie posters manipulating processing fluency on movie titles are presented as an experiment stimulus. As a result, both conceptual and perceptual fluency influence product attitudes positively. Also, imagery fluency fully mediates the relationship between conceptual fluency and product attitudes, while the mediation effect of this variable is not statistically significant for perceptual fluency and product attitudes relationship. This study provides theoretical and managerial implications.
