Abstract
This study attempts to identify the effect of rebranding according to mind-set and regulatory focus. Rebranding strategy is an essential one of corporate brand management. Far too little attention has been still paid to rebranding although the number of rebranding cases increases for various reasons in various industries in recent years. Therefore, this research seeks to fill this gap by examining the effect of personal disposition of consumers which affect rebranding effect. Specifically, this study examined how the rebranding effect varies according to the consumer's mind-set and regulatory focus. The results of the study are as follows. First, for consumers with abstract mind-set and promotion-focused consumers, there is no difference in brand attitude between the moderately incongruent re-branded brand and the completely incongruent re-branded brand whereas consumers with concrete mind-set and prevention-focused consumers prefer the moderately incongruent re-branded brand to the completely incongruent re-branded brand. This study suggests that it is very important to design and develop rebranding strategy by identifying the disposition and characteristics of the core target customers of the brand.
