FOMO(Fear of Missing Out)와 밀접한 관련이 있다.
Abstract
Recently, the open-run phenomenon, in which people wait before the store opens and then immediately run into the store to purchase products, is rapidly emerging as one of the consumption trends in our society. This open-run phenomenon is closely associated with FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) which arises from consumers’ feeling of isolation. In this study, we propose that consumers’ power and perceived crowdedness are closely associated with FOMO and suggest that how power and perceived crowdedness affect consumers' open-run intention through series of experiments. First, our pretest showed that FOMO varies by the perceived power of the participants. Next, we investigated the interaction effect of power and perceived crowdedness on the participants' open-run intentions by manipulating both level of participants' power and of perceived crowdedness as low versus high. Specifically, open-run intention of low power participants increased only when the perceived crowdedness was high. On the other hand, the perceived crowdedness did not affect the open-run intention among the high power participants. In addition, this study verified that this effect occurs by mediating effect of consumers’ FOMO through the PROCESS model. Finally, the theoretical and practical implications of the results are discussed.
